So often you hear tributes to the fallen from OC's Co's etc, who didnt even know the person who has ben taken from us and I wonder are we so unlucky that every one who has died was the best thing since sliced bread as the tributes lead us to believe. Well i can honestly say that Davey ticked all those boxes. We joined the Army together on a miserable Sunday, the 10th Oct 1993 and joined Alma Platoon in Pirbright. Him a Celtic fan from Scotland, me a Rangers Fan from Belfast. We hit it off immediately, ironically both of us ended up pissed together in the Brookwood Arms even before we arrived at the depot. The beer was crap and our first drink was a Castlemaine XXXX for him and a Guinness for me. We were insepaerable
throughout our training in Pirbright and in Catterick. We then went off to join our units him the jocks me the micks. Such is the testament to our friendship that we could go a couple of years without seeing each other before meeting up on some course or other and it would be like i had only talked to him the day before. You meet many acquaintances whilst serving but life long friends are harder to come by. I am proud to be able to call davey my friend, a shining example of everything that makes our country proud of its servicemen. I am proud to have known him, sad to have lost him and never will forget him. Davey, for being my friend, thank you. RIP, God Bless you and the next round is on me.
