About Sophie
This online memorial is a tribute to Sophie Konderak, 16, who was practising with Leicester's elite performance team at Braunstone Leisure Centre when she got into difficulties on Tuesday. Her parents said she was a natural born water baby and had ambitions to compete in the Olympic swimming team as well as to become a doctor. Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death. John and Lesley Konderak, of Leicester, said Sophie was the ideal daughter, kind-hearted and loved to swim. Sophie's former swimming coach Steve Lay said: "You never imagine you will get that call and it's the worst kind of news.
