Jane Wyman

About Jane
An actress who had never spoke or discussed about Ronald Reagan, who used to be married to her. An Oscar-winner and an Outspoken Republican, who was born Sarah Jane Mayfield Fulks, in St. Joseph, Missouri (just 40 mi. N. of Kansas City) in 1917, she was shuttered around homes between Missouri & California, in her youth, before attending Lafayette High School in St. Joseph for at least 1 year. Right afterwards, she maintained jobs as a waitress and a manicurist, before she became a chorus girl at 15. Then, Jane changed her name so many times, from her real name, Sarah Jane Mayfield, she dropped "Sarah," leaving her name to Jane Durrell, where she obtained small roles in: The Kid from Spain (as a "Goldwyn Girl"),

My Man Godfrey, and Cain and Mabel. Then, at 19, she finally changed her name from Jane Durrell to Jane Wyman, and began a contract for Warner Bros., that same year. She made her debut in 1937 in "The Public Wedding," (her first big role), where her movie career took off. Then, she met & fell in love with actor/future president, Ronald Reagan, in the movie, "Public Wedding," where she later married him in 1940 and later divorced him in 1948, having 2 kids, Maureen (who died in 2001) and Michael (whom she adopted). Midway through her 60 yr. career, Wyman gained fame as the deaf-mute-rape victim in "Johnny Belinda," where she won an Oscar in 1948, while kissing her prize, she said, prior to winning it --- "I

won this by keeping my mouth shut, and that's what I'm going to do now." Then, she starred in various films such as: "Stage Fright," "Here Comes The Groom," "The Story of Will Rogers," "The Blue Veil," (where she was nominated a second time), "So Big," then she was nominated a third time as the blind lady to Rock Hudson's lover in "Magnificent Obsession," in 1954, also she appeared in a movie with best friend, Agnes Moorehead, young Hayley Mills & future "Virginian," James Drury in "Pollyanna," where it was the best. After her long career in movies & starring in failed pilots, she went into retirement, ex. when in 1980, she created the role of Angela Channing on "Falcon Crest," which she gained fame for

a younger generation of fans, throughout most of the 1980s, which was called the "Me Generation," a generation of greed, power, passion, sex, deaths, even materialistic subjects that a few other 1980s shows have tackled, though Jane did a pretty good job at it, but she was ill and her docs had ordered her to withdraw from acting, well, it took about 4 yrs. to do this. Her co-star on the show was a new actor, Lorenzo Lamas, who played her grandson in the series. The was not the first time he met her on the show, her friendship with his family, goes way back, when Lorenzo was just 3 mos. old, when his father (Fernando Lamas) guest starred on an episode of Jane's anthology show, at the time, she along with Lorenzo's

real-life family were all under contract @ MGM. Right afterwards, Jane developed a friendship, until Lorenzo's father's death in 1982, when the second season of "Falcon Crest," had started. I grew up watching her on "Falcon Crest," when I was just a little boy, she was talented on the show, but didn't realized she got sick, before the show's cancelation. When it ended in 1990, it was never the same without her, I will remember her laugh, her smile, and even some of the great stories of what she said to her mates. She had an awful lot of friends. I loved Jane, she was an angel (when her character on "Falcon Crest," wasn't), a good lady with a wonderful heart, and will sorely be missed. During her retirement, she

painted pictures, even attended charity events, and also attended funeral services of her best friends/ex-husband - Loretta Young, Ronald Reagan & Eddie Albert, before her death. Jane was a lovely lady & will sorely be missed. She even purchased a home in Rancho Mirage, California, in 1997, and later on April 16, 2003, Ms. Wyman moved to a retirement home in Palm Springs, but it was reported that she lived in a Country Club home in Rancho Mirago, where she passed away. Jane Wyman died at the age of 90, at her Palm Springs, California home on Monday, September 10, 2007, having long suffered from arthritis and diabetes. Wyman's son, Michael Reagan, released a statement saying, "I have lost a loving mother,

my children Cameron and Ashley have lost a loving grandmother, my wife Colleen has lost a loving friend she called Mom and Hollywood has lost the classiest lady to ever grace the silver screen." It was reported that Wyman died in her sleep of natural causes at the Rancho Mirage Country Club. Since she was a member of the Dominican order of the Catholic church, she was buried in a nun's habit. She was interred at Forest Lawn Mortuary and Memorial Park in Cathedral City, California.
