About Bill
This is a tribute to Bill Barker. Bill Barker was a father-of-four who had worked for the police force for 25 years as a traffic policeman and family liaison officer looking after bereaved families.
Assistant Chief Constable Jerry Graham paid tribute to Pc Barker, saying he was "saving lives" by directing people off a stone bridge over the swollen River Derwent when it collapsed.
"Pc Bill Barker, who has served the communities of Cumbria with the Constabulary for 25 years and currently works as a Roads Policing officer in Workington. He was directing motorists off the bridge, saving lives, when the tragic incident occurred," ACC Graham said.

This memorial is dedicated in memory of PC Bill Barker who tragically passed away whilst performing his duties with the utmost diligence and bravery. May he rest in peace.
