About Amy
This is an online tribute in memory of Amy Black. Amy was born in Hedon in the East Riding of Yorkshire. She studied at the Royal Academy of Music and was a mezzo-soprano opera singer.
Since leaving the RAM, she sung the role of “Mercedes” in “Carmen” for English Touring Opera both in England and in Lille, France and the roles of “Enrichetta” in “Conchita” and “Annie” in Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess” for Wexford Festival Opera. She studied Rossini opera with Marta Lantieri at the European Opera Centre and then toured in Switzerland and Germany, singing “Lucilla” in Rossini’s “La Scala di Seta” for the

Whilst in Switzerland she also performed Bach Cantatas and gave a rare performance of “D’un desastre obsur” for Mezzo and Clarinet, by the modern French composer Gilbert Amy as part of the Sierre Festival. After having performed “La Scala di Seta” as guests of the European Union at Expo 2000 in Hanover. Amy returned to Hanover to give a solo recital for the Foreign Office. After seasons with Glyndebourne and English National Opera she returned to the European Opera, this time to sing the role of “Bianca” in “The Rape of Lucretia”.

Llangollen International Singer competition in 2000. She was a finalist in the 2002 Royal Overseas League Competition.
Amy Black passed away on the 24th Novemeber 2009. This is an online memorial in memory of Amy Black, her life and her achievements. May she rest in peace.
