About John
I met John "Dangermouse" Penfold when he became a member of a website that I ran.
I met him several times through organised meet-ups.
He was a larger than life character with boundless enthusiasm and energy.
Over the years he became a good friend and we regularly stayed in touch.
My fondest memory of John was his ability to transform an occasion. It sounds "cliched" but he really lit a room up. He was impossible to ignore and his strong character and great sense of humour turned any normal night out into a great night out.
I was extremely saddened to hear that he had passed away.
My heart goes out to all his family and he certainly is a character that I will never forget (I don't think

I first met John online at the BB ex-forces website and if memory serves me right we had a blazing row! When I met him in Blackpool at our first get together I found him to be utterly charming. He seemed to come through it but he recognised in me what I recognised in him

and although I believe he sought help maybe it was too little too late...who knows? But he will be missed by all his friends and he did have a lot of us.
So rest in peace John and to your family - I hope they find comfort in the knowledge that he was a friend to many and we will love and miss him so much.
